How Décor Made an Event Come Alive
One of the great things about holding the 13th annual New York Junior League Fall Fete at Hudson Terrace was the fact that the space already had a look and feel to it. It wasn’t like walking into a white space and needing to create a theme from top to bottom. Hudson Terrace has gorgeous views of the Hudson River, dark woods, and Asian inspired plants and artwork. The space had a vibe so to speak that could be played off of.
We are lucky on our event planning committee to have an incredibly creative head of décor. She is inspired and clever and knows how to stretch a dollar! For a total of $500 she decorated the entire event space – including a ground floor check in and two full floors for the event. This included flowers, candles, signage, and décor items.
Here is how she did it.
By garnering a donation from a local home decorator of 13 Chinoiserie cachepots and close to 50 Chinoiserie bud vases the team was able to take the Asian vibe of Hudson Terrace and use it to their advantage. (Donations of décor are vital to fundraising events – the less you spend on putting the event together means more to the charity!) She then spent the day before the event scouring the flower mart or deals. For signage she found a 20% discount for Staples – and we used the local office color printer of another committee member.
All-in-all the space came alive and looked at opulent and the views. For your next event, think about working with what the space gives you rather than creating from scratch.
