New York Junior League Fall Fete

On Friday, November 18, the New York Junior League (“NYJL”) hosted approximately 500 guests at its 13th Annual Fall Fête at Hudson Terrace, an opulent venue featuring magnificent vistas of the Hudson River on the edge of Midtown Manhattan.

One of the NYJL’s largest glittering fundraisers, this special evening hosts live and silent auctions accompanied by delicious appetizers, a cocktail reception and dancing.

This year’s live auction featured two tickets to the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show; a President’s Day ski weekend in Aspen; a one week stay at a five bedroom private luxury villa in Acapulco, Mexico; two advance preview screening tickets to all Warner Bros releases for one year; a seven-night stay at the exclusive Palm Island – the Grenadines Resort in the Caribbean; a New York Fashion Week experience; a Washington DC getaway; and a Miami golf weekend.  The event also included over 120+ silent auction items for guests to bid on from trips and experiences, to spa makeovers and golf. The event has something for everyone.

DJ The 8th Era got the entire crowd dancing. The food by Redstone Catering, Mitchel London and Avitably Delicious was just that – delicious!

VIPs were treated to a special VIP only lounge complete with a tequila and whiskey bar, cigar bar, Batch from Scratch cookies and a Vie Luxe gift bag.

All attendees were invited to an after-party at Marquee following the event.

Fall Fête generates vital funding for critical NYJL community services, including one of its signature programs, the Playground Improvement Project. This was the 13th annual auction benefiting New York Parks and Recreation though the New York Junior League’s Playground Improvement Project (PIP). PIP has revamped and rehabilitated neglected playgrounds and parks throughout New York City since 1992. This year’s playground – the East River Park – marks the 21st playground restoration.

The dollars raised at Fall Fete, coupled with an estimated 10,000 volunteer hours by NYJL and community volunteers will help transform East River Park in the spring. Says Council Member Rosie Mendez of the 2nd District (Represents the Lower East Side, East Village, Gramercy Park, Rosehill, Kips Bay; southern part of Murray Hill), “I am ecstatic that the East River Park was chosen as this year’s recipient of the Playground Improvement Project.  The involvement of The New York Junior League will ensure the success of the project which will benefit not just the local community residents, but all New Yorkers.”

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t helping out with a fundraiser or planning a party, whether it was charity leagues in junior high school or fundraisers in high school. I pursued marketing in college as I loved how many exciting roles were covered under one umbrella. It opened the door for me to pursue PR, communications and events. I found a career that is the perfect balance of exactly who I am – creative and detailed. As a public relations and marketing/communications executive with over 15 years of experience, event planning has been at the core of much of my work. I’ve planned everything from a 2,000 person corporate gala to company retreats, charitable auctions and intimate cocktail parties. Event planning is a passion. When I’m not working my day-job as the head of PR/communications, I dedicate my time to the New York Junior League as well as other charitable organizations. (For my full bio, please see LinkedIn.)
