The Brooklyn Kindergarten Society’s 91st Annual Yuletide Ball

You’re Invited: The Brooklyn Kindergarten Society’s 91st Annual Yuletide Ball

The Yuletide Ball celebrates its 91st year as the cornerstone of the Holiday calendar in Brownstone-Brooklyn on Saturday December 10, continuing its important work raising vital funds for early childhood education in underprivileged areas of New York City.  Over 900 attendees are expected to deck out in their tuxedos and gowns to help support the signature project of the Yuletide Ball, The Brooklyn Kindergarten Society.

The Yuletide Ball was originally established in 1920, and from the mid-1940s to late 1960s served as Brooklyn’s major debutante ball.  In its modern incarnation the Yuletide Ball provides Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) with critical funding for five preschools located in New York City Housing Authority apartment complexes in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights and Brownsville.  BKS serves more than 300 children and their families in full-day programs throughout the year.  In addition to providing essential operating and management support for the centers, the proceeds from the Ball enable BKS to offer enrichment activities in all five centers.  These include pre-literacy and language development programs, music and arts instruction, and support for social service staff who provide counseling, referral services and workshops for children, parents and staff.

“The Yuletide Ball sets itself apart from many other black tie benefits with its unique format which enables it to pass on almost 100 percent of the ticket price to BKS programs and operations,” says Michele Newman, director of development, Brooklyn Kindergarten Society. “Guests of the Ball attend dinner parties hosted in Brooklyn and Manhattan by 73 individuals and couples who volunteer on the Yuletide Committee or as Friends of Yuletide.  The dinner parties provide a unique and intimate opportunity for the guests of Yuletide to get to know one another, before heading to The Heights Casino for dessert and dancing.”

About the author

Cynthia Greenberg

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t helping out with a fundraiser or planning a party, whether it was charity leagues in junior high school or fundraisers in high school. I pursued marketing in college as I loved how many exciting roles were covered under one umbrella. It opened the door for me to pursue PR, communications and events. I found a career that is the perfect balance of exactly who I am – creative and detailed. As a public relations and marketing/communications executive with over 15 years of experience, event planning has been at the core of much of my work. I’ve planned everything from a 2,000 person corporate gala to company retreats, charitable auctions and intimate cocktail parties. Event planning is a passion. When I’m not working my day-job as the head of PR/communications, I dedicate my time to the New York Junior League as well as other charitable organizations. (For my full bio, please see LinkedIn.)
