Red Carpet Style: Blow Outs

Just about everywhere you look in New York another “blow bar” is popping up. Blow bars are the new trend of quick, convenient and cost-effective hair blow outs.

Here’s an update on a few:

Blow: Blow Dry Bar is located in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District and since its opening in 2005 has built a cult following. Their signature service is the blow out – but they do offer cuts, colors, mani’s, waxing and make-up services. I’ve gone to Blow quite a few times. I highly recommend them for blow outs. While I have gone for up-dos, I’m not completely thrilled with them. The up-dos usually cost around $100 and don’t tend to stay put.

Bumble and Bumble StylingBar and Shop: At the Bloomingdales on 3rd Avenue/59th Street in Manhattan, Bumble and Bumble StylingBar and Shop is set up for guests to experiment with Bb products, get free tips and techniques from Bb stylists,  and for only $35 and roughly 20 minutes get a style. This is a very convenient. You can do a walk in on a first come first served basis or book an appointment in advance. You can choose your new do from a list of options including: Smooth (Sleek, Shiny and Sort of Straight); Texture (Textured and Tousled or Curled and Swirled); Downtown Updo (Messy and Modern); Uptown Updo (Polished and Prim); or Something Nice. I had a friend go here recently to get a 60’s inspired look. It was fantastic. She paid only $35 and it looked great!

Drybar: Drybar is the newest kid on the block in NYC and has a very simple formula – no cuts, no colors – just blow outs. You can pick from a menu of blow outs for $40 or do an updo for around $80. For $85 they will even come to your house! I have another friend who is a huge fan of Drybar and has used them a number of times.

Getting the Red Carpet Rollout look is now easier with these blow out bars. Here are a few great red carpet styles you can try out: Red Carpet Hair.

Have you tried any of these places? What did you think? What about other cities? What blow out bars do you have?

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t helping out with a fundraiser or planning a party, whether it was charity leagues in junior high school or fundraisers in high school. I pursued marketing in college as I loved how many exciting roles were covered under one umbrella. It opened the door for me to pursue PR, communications and events. I found a career that is the perfect balance of exactly who I am – creative and detailed. As a public relations and marketing/communications executive with over 15 years of experience, event planning has been at the core of much of my work. I’ve planned everything from a 2,000 person corporate gala to company retreats, charitable auctions and intimate cocktail parties. Event planning is a passion. When I’m not working my day-job as the head of PR/communications, I dedicate my time to the New York Junior League as well as other charitable organizations. (For my full bio, please see LinkedIn.)
