Pick-a-Prize Raffle: A Fun Fundraising Idea
A pick-a-prize raffle is a combination raffle and auction. Some also refer to it as a Chinese Auction.
Rather than have one bowl to draw raffle tickets out of for multiple prizes, in a pick-a-prize raffle each item has its own bowl. Attendees can buy books of raffle tickets and put their tickets in the bowl that corresponds with the prize they want most to win. To increase their changes of winning, bidders can put as many raffle tickets as they want in each bowl.
To win, one ticket is pulled from each bowl and the winner gets the corresponding prize. The winner is usually overjoyed as they are the one who picked what they wanted to win.
In a pick-a-prize raffle, raffle tickets aren’t as expensive as traditional raffle tickets (since people aren’t buying, one or two or even three). The goal is to have people buy books of tickets.
For example at the Loughlin Charity Golf Open, their pick-a-prize raffle was $50 for a book of 25 raffle tickets. It worked very well. The prizes were laid out during the registration/breakfast hour so people could buy their raffle tickets while checking-in and mingling during breakfast. There was considerable buzz about the prizes which got more people excited to buy tickets and participate.
