Facebook is not only a great way to connect with friends, it is also a great way to promote events and increase attendance and ticket sales.
I help plan a number of non-profit fundraisers every year and increasing ticket sales and getting new people to attend is always a goal. I’ve found Facebook to be a great asset to promote events and increase attendance.
How to Promote an Event on Facebook
- Go to your Facebook Page – or that of your organization. If you don’t have one, create one.
- Click on “Events” – it is on the left side of your main page under your profile picture.
- Click on “Create an Event” – it is a button on the top towards the right.
- Fill in the when, what, where, more info, etc. Be sure to include an image or a logo of your event/cause. Also, if this is a ticketed event, include a link to ticket sales or how to purchase a ticket. Click on “anyone can view and RSVP” to make it public and/or “show guest list on event page.”
Showing the guest list is great as people can see who is invited and invite new people to attend.
Once your event is live you invite your friends and they can RSVP. When someone RSVPs yes it shows up on their wall that they are attending – thus all their friends are now exposed to your event. As a note: Friends can see friend’s events. It is under Events and is called Friend’s Events. Even if someone isn’t invited they can see the event.
Put your event on your wall – invite people by posting about it and ask them to share with their friends. Keep the word out about your event by posting it on your Wall every few days or when there are new updates to make about the event – such as, ticket sales ending, new celebrity attending, drink specials, etc.
Pretty soon your event is now in the hands of your friends, friends and their friends, friends!
Here is an example of an event that was promoted on Facebook:
